Ali-Bedni Bugyal storytrek
Virgin meadows, unforgettable views of mountain peaks, deep forests, gurgling rivers, and enchanting stories!
The Ali-Bedni trek trail is one of the finest winter treks in the country.
It’s a sight to behold the way snow settles over these lands during winters, with the entire area snowed out.
For those who didn’t know, Ali and Bedni are the names of two different bugyals (called meadows in English) that fall on this enchanting trail.
Again, for those who didn’t know, this trail is part and parcel of the longer, and the famed Roopkund trek.
Bedni, in fact, is (used to be , till hiking was banned on the Roopkund trail) the most important destination en-route Roopkund trail.
Deep & ancient forests, lush green Himalayan meadows, sunlight streaming in through the trees in the forest, gurgling rivers will welcome you on this enchanting trail.
Topped with clear, open views of the two mountain peaks, Mount Trishul and Mount Nandaghunti.
Having said that, no ‘Storytrail’ is complete withot stories.
And every square inch of this trail is replete with ancient stories.
It is said that Shiva and Goddess Sati took this route to go to kailash when they got married!
Reason why Goddess Nanda Devi is the local deity here.
And the route followed on the Roopkund trek overlaps with a pilgrimage which occurs every year, called the RajJat Yatra.
This festive pilgrimage is held each year to worship goddess Nanda Devi, and people from several villages of the Kumaon and Garhwal participate in this Yatra. This Yatra starts from a small village 'Nauti' near Karnaprayag, and goes beyond Roopkund to Homkund.
If you happen to be on the trek during this Yatra, or if you can plan your trip to coincide with the yatra, it’s an experience that will stay with you for your lifetime!
Trekking along with thousands of locals, dressed in their traditional attire participating in the festival, is an experience that cannot be explained in words.
Bedni Bugyal, one of the finest high altitude grasslands in the Garhwal mountains (altitude 3354 metres), is not for nothing known as heaven-on-earth.
Famous for wild high altitude flowers and herbs during the spring thaw, offering a splendid view of the Greater Himalayan range, and unforgettable sunsets and sunrises. The Bedni Kund is also located in this region, and is famous for the rare BrahmaKamal flower.
